Thursday 8th The Director of Orchestra at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte - Jonathan Govias - invites you to a concert commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Armistice and the 80th Anniversary of Kristallnacht. The  repertoire to the concert includes music by 2 British nationals who died in combat during WWI, a civilian Frenchwoman who also passed away in WWI, and 2 works written by Jewish composers. Guest of honor: the cellist Cicely Parnas.

January GALETTES DES ROIS / KING'S CAKE organized by AF and free for AF members
Sunday 6th The galette des rois is a cake traditionally shared at Epiphany, on 6 January. It celebrates the arrival of the Three Wise Men in Bethlehem. This traditional French holiday, la Fête des Rois is a festive event and an opportunity for families to gather for some delicious Galette des Rois (King's cake). ... If it's your lucky day, your piece of galette will hold the fève (a charm hidden inside the cake) and you will be crowned king or queen of the day!
February CHANDELEUR / CREPES DAY organized by AF and free for AF members
Sunday 3rd In France, the month of February starts with the celebration of Candlemas – la Chandeleur – which occurs on the 2nd, which is 40 days after Christmas. ... The origins of the Chandeleur date back to a pagan feast: according to local customs, candles had to be lit at midnight as a symbol of purification and crêpes were shared. Though crêpes are great any time of year, it's a tradition in France to serve them on February on that day, who became known as Crêpe Day, referring to the ritual of offering crêpes.
March FRANCOPHONE FESTIVAL NEW organized by AF and discount for AF members
TBD The Charlotte Francophone Festival's mission is to promote the French language by raising awareness of the richness and diversity of Francophone cultures from around the world. Every year in March, Francophone Festivals are organized around the world, featuring a variety of cultural and educational events.
March-April dates to com Experience the rich world of contemporary films from various countries at the International Film Festival hosted by the UNC Charlotte Department of Languages and Culture Studies and some student organizations such as the French Club. The festival takes place on the UNC Charlotte campus. The screenings and related special events are free and open to the public, and all films are subtitled.
May AF GENERAL ASSEMBLY DAY organized by AF and free for AF members
TBD The general meeting consists of all members registered on the date on which the meeting is convened. The assembly listens to the financial and moral reports of the association. It decides upon the provisional budget and the events for the following financial year. The members discusses all other items on the agenda and provides for the election of members of the board of directors. The meetings is also a time to share foods, drinks and ideas.
June MUSIC FESTIVAL "MAKE MUSIC DAY" NEW discount for AF members
Friday 21st "Make Music Day" is a free celebration of music around the world on June 21st. Launched in 1982 in France as the Fete de la Musique, it is now held on the same day in more than 800 cities in 120 countries. Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music is open to anyone who wants to take part. Every kind of musician – young and old, amateur and professional, of every musical persuasion – pour into the streets, parks, plazas and halls to share their music with friends, neighbors and strangers. All of it is free and open to the public.
Saturday 13th The French National Day will be celebrated on Bastille Day eve. Save the date already!
